How to Make Fermented Rice Bran for Shrimp Farms

Here are the ingredients you need to make fermented rice bran, which can be used for farms with an area of 500 m²:

  • 500 g of rice bran
  • 5 ml of Lactobacillus sp.
  • 500 g of water (1:1 ratio with the rice bran)
  • 2.5-5 mg of yeast

You can adjust the amount of each ingredient to your farm area.

Make fermented rice bran easily with these five steps:

  1. Prepare a clean and hygienic container with a minimum capacity of 25 liters.
  2. Pour water into the container.
  3. Add all the ingredients and mix until they form an even mixture.
  4. Close the container tightly to prevent air from entering.
  5. Let it sit for 24 hours, and the fermented rice ban is ready to use.

How to Apply Fermented Rice Bran in Shrimp Farms

Fermented rice bran has a distinct aroma which is similar to fermented cassava. If you detect a foul smell, discard the fermented rice bran as it may have been contaminated by harmful microbes that can poison the shrimp. Repeat the fermentation process and ensure the container is completely sealed to prevent contamination.

Apply the fermented rice bran in the pond three times a week in the afternoon or evening. Wait 5-7 days to observe changes in pond water color due to plankton growth. Stop applying rice bran once the water has reached a brownish green color.
