In celebration of World Oceans Day, commemorated annually on June 8, JALA and its four subsidiaries, namely PT JALA Akuakultur Lestari Alamku, PT Indonesia Makan Udang, PT Makan Udangnya Indonesia, and PT Gajah Mina Semesta, organized a Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) initiative titled “JALA for Ocean: Conservation and Real Action” on June 20–21, 2025. Held at JALA Headquarters and Pelangi Beach in Bantul, this initiative reflects JALA Group’s ongoing commitment to preserving marine and coastal ecosystems.

The program consisted of four main activities, namely waste education and recycling, adoption of one sea turtle nest, 150 sea turtle hatchlings release, and the planting of 200 fragrant screwpines. In collaboration with the Aksi Konservasi Yogyakarta Foundation (Fourkey), the initiative also engaged employees from all JALA entities, encouraging them to take part not only in field activities but also in long-term environmental efforts.

As part of its long-term commitment to environmental responsibility, this CSR program was not designed as a mere ceremonial event to commemorate World Oceans Day. Instead, the entire series of activities reflects JALA’s sustainable efforts to implement comprehensive Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) principles across all entities within the company.

The CSR program began on June 20, 2025, with an anorganic waste education and sorting workshop at JALA Headquarters. The FourKey team facilitated the session about the importance of sorting plastic, metal, and glass waste, as well as their impact on marine ecosystems. Employees were also involved in implementing a five-category waste sorting system across the JALA office. The sorted waste was then donated to FourKey for further recycling into useful products.

On the following day, June 21, 2025, the program continued with a series of activities at Pelangi Beach. Through the turtle nest adoption activity, JALA demonstrated its commitment to support sea turtle conservation as well as participated in the care and protection of identified nests. This was followed by sea turtle hatchlings release, which aimed to improve their survival rates. This moment became an educational and emotional experience for JALA employees who participated in this agenda.

At the end of the day, JALA employees planted 200 fragrant screwpines along Pelangi Beach as a part of JALA’s contribution to coastal rehabilitation. Fragrant screwpines play a significant role in preventing abrasion, maintaining sand stability, and providing habitat for coastal wildlife. Through this planting effort, JALA is eager to promote sustainable and participatory reforestation.

“On behalf of JALA, I would like to express our sincere gratitude to the Fourkey Team for facilitating our entire CSR program series. Through JALA for Ocean: Conservation and Real Action initiative, we aim to involve all employees of the JALA Group in the hands-on contribution for the preservation and rehabilitation of coastal ecosystems,” said Yasiqy Haidar, Community Development Manager at JALA. CEO of JALA, Liris Maduningtyas, added, “This moment marks the second time we’ve carried out a sea turtle conservation initiative, and it will be an annual agenda at JALA to ensure the preservation of the rich biodiversity of coastal ecosystems.”

By actively involving employees and the local community, JALA hopes this initiative will serve as the foundation for a growing coastal conservation movement that delivers lasting impact. Happy World Oceans Day!
