Paddlewheels are the heart of oxygen circulation in shrimp ponds. Their optimal performance directly affects water quality, shrimp health, and overall farming efficiency. Unfortunately, most paddlewheel damage occurs due to negligence in routine maintenance, which is often overlooked. This article provides practical steps to care for paddlewheels and extend their service life.

Daily and Periodic Maintenance Tips

Aside from choosing good-quality paddlewheels, consistent maintenance is key to ensuring durability. Here are several daily and periodic care tips farmers can apply.

1. Check paddlewheel visual performance daily

Farmers should observe whether the paddlewheel rotates normally and whether water is evenly distributed across the pond surface. Record or document any unusual noise, irregular vibration, or abnormal water splashing so that corrective action can be taken immediately.

2. Clean the blades

Remove moss, algae, and mud attached to the blades using a brush or medium-pressure water spray. This should be done at least once or twice a week.

3. Lubricate the gearbox and bearings

Use high-quality grease or lubricant oil every 2–4 weeks, depending on usage hours. Also, ensure there are no oil leaks in the gearbox.
