JALA’s Commitment in Indonesia’s Fisheries Human Resources Development with BPPSDM

On 19-21 February 2024, JALA had the opportunity to attend the Coordination Meeting of the Agency for Marine and Fisheries Research and Human Resources (BPPSDM) in Surabaya. This moment marks the formalization of the strategic partnership between JALA and BPPSDM regarding human resources development and shrimp farming digitalization.

With this partnership in commencement, JALA will be involved in conducting training to increase the competence of marine and fisheries students and education personnel in technology and digitalization.

The competencies that will be developed consist of various topics, from the importance of cultivation data recording, data monitoring and analysis, financial management, to sustainable cultivation and the aspect of traceability.

In line with this, JALA will also partner with various businesses in the aquaculture industry to facilitate the employment of graduates, offering career opportunities in shrimp farming for qualified individuals.

JALA will also be involved in the application of information technology and IoT in the Smart Fisheries Village program at a national scale. This initiative involves farms under BPPSDM’s priority program. The technologies to be introduced are JALA App dan JALA Baruno as monitoring and analysis technologies for shrimp farming performance.

JALA App is a shrimp cultivation management application which helps farmers record, monitor, and analyze cultivation conditions. Farmers can record more than 40 cultivation parameters on JALA App to keep track of the latest condition of their pond and take the best step.

Meanwhile, JALA Baruno is a water quality measurement device which can measure 5 parameters at once, namely temperature, pH, salinity, DO, and ORP. Through regular measurements, farmers can determine if the water conditions in their ponds are not ideal and take appropriate actions. JALA Baruno measurements are also integrated with the JALA App for added convenience.

With the series of training, JALA hopes that the marine and fisheries education personnel will be more aware of the importance of data recording in order to make the best decision in shrimp cultivation.
