JALA is honored to be invited as part of the Blue Food Innovation Summit 2023 in London, United Kingdom on May 23-24 2023. This year, the summit’s theme is “Investing in Sustainable Aquaculture to Replenish our Oceans”, with the aim of raising global conversation for blue food, sustainable aquaculture, and restorative ocean practices.
As an end-to-end shrimp farming solution, JALA was chosen as one of the ground-breaking companies to discuss forward-thinking approaches to aquatic food production, including sustainable aquafeed, seaweed, fish health and welfare, and digital platforms for smallholder farmers. We were delighted to meet with aquaculture producers, feed suppliers, health providers, retailers, investors, and innovators in this two-day event.
Our CEO, Liris Maduningtyas, participated in a panel discussion about sustainable aquatic health with an impressive line-up from companies such as Mowi, Elanco, TIDAL, and MSD Animal Health Intelligence Technology Labs.
During the discussion, Liris shared how JALA has helped small-scale farmers who were previously unfamiliar with technology adoption and data-driven farming through our community development program called Tebar by JALA and Jagoan Tambak. These programs gave technical assistance through technology that JALA has developed including our water quality monitoring device (JALA Baruno) and shrimp farm management app (JALA App).
Not only that, JALA also provided consultations and regular discussions to ensure that cultivation runs smoothly. At the end of the cycle, JALA helped with providing market access for farmers to sell their shrimp at competitive and fair prices. Just last year, these programs were run in Cirebon, West Java for 2 cultivation cycles, bringing significant improvements for local farmers.
Moreover, Liris also shared about JALA’s plans to provide fair financing and insurance to small-scale farmers in cooperation with the Financial Services Authority of Indonesia, banks, and insurance companies this year. This project aims to impact at least 250 small-scale farmers in Java. By addressing issues faced by small-scale farmers, JALA paves the way for tech companies to enter a wider market and bring a bigger impact for sustainable aquaculture.
JALA is grateful for the opportunity to meet and engage with companies who are just as passionate as us to bring innovation which restores the ocean ecosystem. This opportunity was made possible through the trust and support of JALA’s stakeholders and farmer communities. We are optimistic that this milestone will bring us another step closer to being the leader in the blue revolution across the shrimp farming industry through big data.
